MacKID's Picks: 5 Things To Do With Kids This Week

This Friday marks the beginning of Thanksgiving break. Kids are out of school, and theres some fun events going on, to take the whole family out for an day of entertainment. The fall and Holiday fun has already begun, with local fairs, live theatre plays, parades and more. The kids can't get enough of this time of year and, to be honest, neither can we.

Here are five things we're looking forward to this week:

1. Fairs!

Come check out the Meander Ranch Makers Boutique fair, at the Calaveras county fairgrounds in Angels Camp. Bring the family out anytime from 10am-4pm, on Saturday the 19th,  and enjoy crafts, local shopping, raffles, jewelry and yummy food vendors. General admission is only $2! Don’t forget to mark your calendar for next Fridays holiday Fairs as well. upcoming on the 25 is the Groveland Christmas Craft Fair, from 9am-5pm. There will be lots of kid friendly activities, prizes, candy, goodies, and more than 30 vendors from all over Northern California! Last but certainly not least, we have the Hometown Crafters 29th annual Christmas fair, at the Sonora Opera hall in downtown Sonora. Support local handmade crafts, leatherwork, art, and all kinds of amazing handmade goods. Admission if free and all ages are welcome!

2. Live Theatre!

Love watching holiday movie classics? This year, try out the live preformance local plays, and support our towns theatres, so they can continue to put on amazing shows! There are so many good ones to choose from, you can catch Elf at the East Sonora Theatre, Its a Wonderful Life at the Murphys Creek Theatre, or A Christmas Story at the Metropolitan Theatre 59 in San Andreas. Show times and admission cost varies, so be sure to check out the events calendar or individual websites, for more info. 




3. Dodgeball!

Bret Harte Thanksgiving throw down, hosted at the Bret Harte High school lower gym in Angels Camp. This is a very awesome opportunity to bring the family, and get some extra energy out of the little ones. Dodgeball starts at 5:30pm and admission is $5. Snack shack will be open for refreshments. 


4. Parades and Christmas Trees!

This Saturday get the family outside and moving, support the annual Jim Walk About and Wellness by joining in from 9am-12pm. Make sure to reserve a spot on the website. Check out this years Sonora Christmas Tree lighting, on Wednesday the 23rd. It will be held at the Red church on Washington st in downtown Sonora, starting at 5:30pm. Next Friday the 25th is downtown Sonora Christmas Parade, there will be music, lights, floats, and more! Event starts at 6pm and will be a great time of Christmas spirit. All of these events will be free of charge. 

5. Ice Skating!

Don’t forget to head over to Columbia and check out the new Ice skating rink! Times vary, but the rink will be open from November to January 30th 2023. General admission is $12 including skate rental for 90-minutes of skating. Skate Helpers: $5; Helmets: $5 Make sure you book a reservation first!
