W.R.A.P. (Wellness Recovery Action Plan) Workshop

Check out W.R.A.P, a wellness workshop practically designed for a Macaroni Mom (or Dad)!

By Janet Laird & Lexi Stepps February 23, 2012

(Janet Laird's W.R.A.P. Program is a MacKid sponsor. We LOVE our sponsors, they make our newsletter possible!)

Picture this - it's the beginning of the day, and you wake up to little fingers poking you, cold feet in your back, and "Mooommmmmyyyyy" being whispered over and over...and over. It's time to wake up! It's also time to feed the kids, get them bathed, dressed, fed, off to school, get the house cleaned up, laundry done, bills paid, grocery shopping done, errands run, kids picked up, snacks fed, dinner made, house cleaned up (again), homework done, checked and rechecked, bath time, jammies on, teeth brushed, books read, nightlights turned on, hugs and kisses given, and then it's time to clean the house again.

So tell me: does this sound like your day? If so, do you notice any time being taken there for yourself? Most mamas don't take time in their day to sit down and relax, and so the stress of everyday life can become too much for many moms.
If you're looking for a way to take care of yourself so that you can take care of your family, check out the W.R.A.P. program! Here's a quick overview of the program, written by Janet Laird, your local W.R.A.P. facilitator:

Sometimes the day to day stress of parenting can get so overwhelming that your health and wellness is impacted. As the flight attendants tell us when we get in an emergency situation, putting on your own oxygen mask first is imperative so that you are able to assist those around you. It is important to have a plan to minimize the effects of stress in the first place. The W.R.A.P. (Wellness Recovery Action Plan) self-management system is a terrific way to be empowered when triggers happen that cause your resiliency to decline. Accessing a huge toolbox of wellness tools can make all the difference in the world.

Learn how to write a personal plan for your wellness by taking a local wellness workshop March 9th – April 27th 2:30-4:30 each Friday at the San Andreas Library. Through this interactive workshop some topics covered will include; increasing support, identifying triggers, using self-expression through art and journaling, turning negative self-talk to positive, the importance of sunlight, sleep, and having fun to reduce tension. When triggers happen, being extra nurturing to yourself is essential. W.R.A.P. helps you have the self-nurturing plan to keep you on track.

The cost of the 8 week workshop is $40 with the proceeds benefitting the San Andreas Movers and Shakers Parkinson’s Support Group. For more information go to: www.janetlaird.blogspot.com and click on the W.R.A.P. icon. Pre-register by calling Janet Laird at 772-8762.
